4008 ZM II Motor Problem?

Post by nagaarjuna »

aaaaaaargh! My baby let me down! After having put up all those extra lightsto get that precious,much-craved, slo-mo shot in an otherwise DVCam production, my beaulieu fizzes out after a couple of seconds of driving. What´s wrong? I metered both my batteries (an original one and a new one from Bavaria Film) and their both fully charged. So I guess there´s some kind of connection problem; what should I do? CAN I do something at all, or should I send it of to some overhaul? Where to go then? I live in Copenhagen, Denmark, so the closest specialist would be nice to go for.

I know there is a beaulieu specialist in Sweden. Andreas mentioned him a few times. Maybe Mattias knows the address. His name was Anderson I believe. He frequents this board also, sometimes.

first of all, check if it is a trivial contact problem. take off the battery and see if one of the 3 contacts has any oxid. you can clean the contacts with a small brush (car shops) and pull them a little bit more upside to make more tension to the battery plate.
Look, if only the motor does not run (then it´s a problem with the 7,2 V voltage), or the meter (then the 3,6 V voltage).

BAD CART?

Post by S8 Booster »

Have you checked the cartridge?
Some of the bad older K40 cartridges sometimes blocked totally.

Remove the cart from the cam and try to run it again again at normal frame rate 18 or 24 fps.
Or, is it totally dead?
If yes check battery contacts etc like Pedro suggested.

I just had Beaulieu 4008 ZM overhauled by Björn and his is providing excellent service, which I can recommend. Camera runs nicely !

yes, that´s right,I should have thought of Björn...and thanks for your advices. I already have cleaned my batteries, and the camera goes down indifferently of having film in it or not. (Anyway, I´ve only fresh K40 in it). I´ll try out the trick with pulling up the contacts. And as far as I remember, both the motor and the lightmeter goes down (I´ll go check now...).

Are you sure that the battery realy is charged? Even if the the battery test in camera says there is power in the camera, BUT you don´t know HOW much. Take out the film, put master swich to test, press the contact in the handgrip. The needle shall go up a bit over the slot at right in view finder. If it does there is volts. If you now press the start button to run the camera, the needle shall stay in nearly the same possition, if not there is no Amps in battery. Check the charger.
Mail me, for further info.
