Anamorphic Lenses
I´m wondering if someone could tell me what the best x2 anamorphic lens for Beaulieu 4008ZM-4 would be and where i can purchase it.

I believe Super8Sound sells an anamorphic lens for the beaulieu at an insanely high price. Your best bet for something semi low priced would probably to find a fixed cmount lens of some sort with a small enough lens diameter to fit one of the anamorphic projector lenses people have been fitting to cameras.

Hi Guest,
I've been searching an anamorphic attachment for my Schneider 1.4/7-80 lens too, in the past.
The Schneider is far too big to have an anamorphic lens attached on it.
Jake, from The Widescreen Centre, could offer you an Iscorama 54, but even that one is too small.
You could find a used lens on e-Bay, but, usually, they are PROJECTION lenses, so you have to zoom a lot, to avoid vignetting...
Maybe you could search for an anamorphic prime, and fix it directly to your camera's body.
I don't know if they're easy to find, but they would surely be very expensive, I suppose.

Thanks for your replies,
I checked out the super8sound prices, but they seem to be out of this world.
After looking around and reading your responses i realized that its pretty expensive to find anamorphic lenses that fit on the Beaulieu Schneider.
What would be the best choice in s8mm cameras / lenses that are easy to upgrade with a affordable anamorphic lens ?

I only use Anamorphic for filming, once you start there is no going back to the square picture, I use a canon 1014e with a Kowa PA35 Anamorphic lens, this is a good combination as the two lenses are very comparable in size, the Canon 1014e has a 58mm lens size, and the Kowa PA35 is 54mm at the rear, you can see a picture of my set-up in the pictures section on this web site, (under Knowledge) left hand side of this page. I would also reccomend the Kowa 8z, used with a Canon 514xls, or Elmo 230 xls, the most important thing is to get a camera with a small front lens element, that will mean less vignetting, hope this helps[/img]
Hi!
Thanks alot for your help,
In the last couple of days i tried to get ahold of a Kowa 8Z lens but without any luck, i found a place in UK selling one for about 200$, which is quite alot compared to what some people suggested to me.
I have a question concerning the cameras, i want to film a short feature with 3 cameras in anamorph 2.66:1 (i would prefer 2.35:1 , but it seems to be impossible to get x1.75 lenses), now, i´ll get a Canon 1024 in a couple of days which i want to set up with a Kowa 8Z (i cant afford the PA35) and i´m not sure about the 2 other cameras, that will give me about the same result in filming, is a 814 or 512 equipped with Kowa 8Z lenses about the same ?
What would be the best "team" of cameras to work together? (of course, 3x 1024 would be great, but expensive as well) and while im at it, does someone know where i can buy 3 kowa 8z lenses (for less than 200 a piece)? Ebay doesnt seem to have any.
If someone wants to sell his lens , i´m interested
I would even pay good money for someone lending me the lenses hehe

I might be selling my Kowa 8Z and my whole anamorphic setup in a bit. Well perhaps not the support equipment, but the lens and camera. I'm about to purchase this little beauty here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 16891&rd=1
I'm told from this website it should fit on the back of a 67mm lens and be okay fro 15mm and up (actually the guy told me that in an e-mail):
http://jl-site.com/Super8/AnamorphicLens.html
I think this means it would work well on a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II, Nizo 6080, or a Canon 1014 XL-S. I'll soon find out.

Great Konton!
This Zeiss has also the lock ring for focus!
I bought with Esko Vehtari 2 pcs. of Muller (also made in Germany) anamorphot 2x lens during last week from ebay (Australia).
This lens has 71 mm back side diameter and 110 mm of front side!
Esko is putting this to his Beaulieu 4008ZMII and I'll try to install this monster to my Bauer 715 XL , 709 XL or Royal 10 E macro.
We'll send you photos of these setups, when they are finnished.
I can use it also with videoprojector when I'm showing my footage!
I had to design the both support, for camera and super 8 and video projector.
BTW. I shot my first K40 roll with that Leicina Super Rt with proskar anamorphic 2x lens. It seemed to work very well, I really hope my footage look nice too!
I'll let you know, when I have received it from Kodak Lausanne.

Hi Konton!
Please let me know when you are selling your anamorphic setup and the Kowa 8Z , i´m interested in it. (frogbrother@gmx.de)
Really nice looking Zeiss lens, does anyone know whether the difference in e.g. Zeiss , Kowa , Mueller, Isca etc. is very noticably ?
E.g. when you shoot with 2 cameras , one has a Kowa , the other one a different one and when you mix the scenes together.
One thing i´m still looking for ist captures of film shot with an anamorphic lens. I found one on this site but i´m wondering if someone has a few more? Possible even in 2.66:1 ?

Hi Konton,
that Zeiss lens really looks great. I hope that Möller/Müller lenses we bought from Australia with Jukka are as good as Zeiss. I just got confirmation from seller that they are on the way to Finland. I also bought ISCO Göttingen x2 lens from same seller and it got notice from post customs that it has arrived. Let's see what I can do with it, I'll keep all of you posted.
BR,
Esko

What is a lock ring? The only reason I am getting this lens is because I'm sure it would work on a lens with a 67mm diameter. But being Zeiss is pretty cool too. Sounds like everyone has some pretty nice equipment. What kind of digital projector do you have? I have a Sharp M20X. For some reason I never thought about putting my anamorphic lens in front of it though. I'll have to try that.
It's going to be a few weeks before I get the Zeiss lens. After that I'll probably be posting my old setup on Ebay. I'll be sure to list it here for everyone.
I'll try to add some still captures soon!!!

I think this Zeiss lens has some kind of locking ring for focus, meaning you first put the focus ring to the right position and then lock it with that another locking ring.Konton wrote:What is a lock ring?
It could be very useful in some situations.

I have one 3M-model (don't remember the number of it).
I'll also try this as soon as I received both my first AM footage and this bigger Muller lens.
My idea is to transfer footage with my Workprinter. Then without any scaling I'll edit that vertically stretched image with Premiere.
Then I'll make a both versions avi-files of it: unscaled and scaled ones.
I can use that scaled version making mpg-file of it and showing it through normal (4:3, 16:9) television.
I'll use that unscaled versions to show same footage with video projector.
I really hope, this will works!
