I there.
I have an Uher 4000 open reel recorder and need to keep it in sync with image.
I've heard it can be modifyed, but I don't know what to do and how.
I could modify it myself if someone could tell me what I should do?\
Thanks in advance

SYNC SOUND
Hello.
I examined an UHER recorder probably a 4000 a short while ago. I checked it for any default sync systems but I could not finde any.
I belive that if it can be modified to go sync for playback yu will need Pedros pilottone/sync controllers that he describes in the following posts:
http://www.8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts ... .php?t=703
http://www.8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts ... 18&start=0
http://www.8mm.filmshooting.com/scripts ... .php?t=737
If I remember correctly you will need to get a sync pulse signal from your camera on to one of the recorded tracks then next at playback using the pulses to sync the projector and the sound player (possibly your Uher if modified) at projection or transfer.
There are also some infor about sound at this site:

I think Pedro knows tha adress to a company in Germany that can modify your recorder but I do not know their adress. Pedro may help you:

You probably have one of the Uher report seria, with 13 cm reels. That recorders have a incridible good audio quality and in year 2000 there had been built some new Uher report monitor on customer´s demand. The audio quality can easyly competite with any digital device, specially at 19 cm/sec.
What I believe you have, is the model named "synchro" or similar. That model is a mono recorder which uses the second track for recording a sync reference signal from any camera output. To adjust the sync level, the VU meter is double, with two pointer, one for audio, the other for sync.
You can connect directly to pilot tone gnenerators of 16 mm cameras or of the Beaulieu 4008ZM cameras.
You also can connect to any camera with flash contact. In this case, you need an interface, converting the camera switching into a tone signal.
The recorder DOES NOT run in sync with the camera. It ONLY registers any speed variation plus the exact absolute speed of your camera. This sync signal can be used for later master input for a electronic digital sync system/editing system, like Gebuhr etc. The Gebuhr equipment is available today and still in production, but rather costy. It is an open system with a lot of options, it is also inferfacing to CDAudio. And at any step of the system, sound film projection is possible.
