Ground Glass Telecine?

i suppose that cine-look technique where people are attaching rotating "ground glass" to the fronts of camcorders is the source for this. don't see why you couldn't cobble together a spinning disk for telecine purposes. might remove some of the graininess and even out the quality a bit, but then it might be more blurry.

interesting thought for getting a particular look tho.

Have you considered one of those excellent Bolex viewers, that have a 14" ground glass screen which is rear projected upon? The quality is so good, and it's a little bit like watching a tv, but it really is a cinema screen - very bright, photographic quality and progressive scan (cine). Could be great for filming off. They are rare machines though.

Hmm... I'll keep my eyes open.

I've shot 16mm off a Steinbeck before... looks pretty nasty, but it was old.

I've seen much newer, nicer ones than this, with bigger, flatter screens and in a sexier box, but this is the kind of thing I'm talking about:
