Just Another Manic eh... Format?

Post by S8 Booster »

I do not know if this is something really new, I do not scan video catalogs a lot, but Sony has launced another DV format: MICROMV that uses different compression (MPEG?) and even smaller cartridges than MiniDV.

Funny enough this cam reminds me of a S8 cam.

One of this cams use a huge 2.110.000 pixel chip though.

Resolution is supposed to be 520 to 530 lines.

Adding another format to the tape salad?
Just another good reason to continue to shot 8mm film!

(They do have some fancy features for the modern multimedia multi communication era though)

Yep- new video formats and equipment will keep showing up. Kodak made a good point about cost-effectiveness on the video/film "There's More to The Story" section of their web site. It's that anytime there's to be an improvement in image quality in video the equipment has to be rebought. Whereas in film, where the image quality comes in the film itself, and not how it's recorded (the camera). I wish more people would be able to see this bad flaw before they try to make such a huge transition. Already there's several better digital projection systems costing at least a $100,000 than the ones that are being used in digital theatres today. If movie-making's about to go through a huge transtition how about one with better quality and cost effectiveness, like MaxiVision 48!
