Bauer T520 Projector Problems.

Post by Konton »

I just bought this projector and it's running a little fast. Looks like it's at 25fps and it should be at 24fps. Any idea how to fix this? Anyone?

Hello Konton,
you are in a 60 Hz country and the projector is probably a 50 Hz version, look at the identification plate at the bottom. It has an AC motor with speed setting with the belt discs, just like the T600.
There is no way to fix this easyly. If Bauer spare part stock was still working, you could purchase a 60 Hz belt disc (smaller diameter) and a 60 Hz motor condensator.
This way I modified a 50 Hz version of a T182 projector in 1991, to export it to Brazil.

The T520 is rather different design from you T610. What would be nearly equal, is the T525 or the T510, but not the T520.
Compatible models you recognize at the power and framerate rotary switch directly under the lens.

Damn, you're right. I guess I should have asked the guy before I bought it. It is a 50 Hz model. I just assumed it could be fixed like the T610's. Why the hell doesn't it have the info saying 25fps if this is the case? Oh well. I wonder if I could sell it for what I paid for it . . . Thanks for the info!

If it says 24FPS, then it is 24FPS when you run it with an electric current of 50HZ. With the 60HZ it is runnig faster. If the projector has a variable speed knob this could have been a nonissue since you could have set it at 20FPS for it to run at 24FPS.

I wish that was the case. But this projector doesn't work that way. It'd all based on the belts.

I had the same exact problem when I purchased a Bauer T600!
It was horrible. I kept trying to contact Europe to see if there was chance to get another motor, another belt. I tried for 6 months and finally I ended up selling it. Then I got a T610. No problems with that machine!
Just sell it. Good luck. I have been there.

An old post by me, but I thought I should finish it with new information since you never know who needs it. The motor is 50Hz. But it does say it should be running at 24fps. So may it should be with 50Hz, but I'm at 60Hz and with my tobin crystal speed checker, I read it running at 30fps. Crazy, eh?

Hallo Konton,

It is right the Bauer T520 has fixed speeds of 18 an 24 frames/s.
In case you use your 50 Herz projector in a country with 60 Herz you only have to change the diameter of the small belt disc.
Probably you will find the diameter in your projector is 14,6 mm. For a speed of 24 f/s with 60 Herz you have to multiply this diameter with 6/5. That is 17,5 mm. If you know somebody with a lathe in your neighbourhood he can make a suitable little bus that you can glue on the original belt disc or he can make a total new one.

Regards, Rob.

Thanks bob. Makes sense. Bummer this isn't electronically controlled like with an Emlo. Mine runs at 25fps and 30fps rather than 18fps and 24fps. I'm gonna play around with the 30fps running speed. Where did you get that pic? Nice intel.

You can easily calculate an other diameter if you wish to use other speeds.
I made the picture myself. Thank you.

@bob - I'm not good at that. I was hoping to be able to set it to an exact speed that would then be controlled. Oh well. Thanks for taking the pic and showing me. Maybe I'll mess with it more. If I haven't totally broken it.

@pedro - How's the syncro business going? I just got my T610 out modified with your 1008. Maybe I need to get something from you to sync it at 23.976 rather than 24.

For anyone interested, this is me speed testing the Bauer T520 at 30fps:
