Light metering with Weston Master III (model 737)

Post by tgreathead »

I've got a Weston Master III (model 737) that (I'm told) uses ASA settings. I'm just trying to figure out how to use it with my film cameras (Yashica 600 Electro super-8, Keystone A-12 16mm). I know how to use the meter but don't have my shutter angle. I don't know the calculation to figure out the shutter speed even if I use any shutter angle as an example.

Basically, if I want to shoot 24fps, what is a good guess for the shutter speed (1/36 second, 1/50, etc.)?

What is the formula I would use to arrive at such a number?
(example: 24fps & 180 degree shutter, or 18fps & 180 degree shutter)

Thanks for any help or direction,

Here's a start...sorry for any typos and spelling mistakes, I still have to edit my older pages...

Basically, I would guess on a 150 degree shutter for your older Keystone. The super 8 may have a 165 degree? Definitely not XL.

I finally broke down and ordered an original manual from craigcamera.com. The A-12 shutter is 160 degrees.

Thanks for the help, and the great site:)
