Cheapest labs for telecine of 16mm negative ??

Post by supa_ate_sixteen »

I am working on a short film right now and am shopping for the best lab to get my 16mm negative transferred with color correction (basically supervised transfer) etc. I am currently looking at Yale film and Video in Hollywood, CA. They will do the work for $175 an hour on a film chain system with Davinci color correction system. Now before anyone has anything to say about Yale I have heard it all here before and thats now what I'm looking for. I am looking for a lab that might have CHEAPER prices. I tried to "bargain" with Keith at Yale on the phone and all he did was quote me at their full prices listed on the website. No student discount etc. Please post your insights on cheaper labs here.

Thanks!

Sorry I said thats now what I'm looking for and I meant "not" looking for. I am not looking for a critique on Yale. Just the best prices out there.

If you find a better rate for telecine, let me know -- $175 at Yale is the best I've found yet.

You might try RGB Color Lab -- their prices on developing are outstanding, so maybe their transfer prices are cheap too? I haven't used them for transfer. Try calling 'em at (323) 469-1959. Good luck...

You bring up a real good point there "guest". I actually wanted to know if anyone out there has used RGB color labs in California? They're 11 cents a foot process and prep for telecine is unbeatable (unless your Matt Pacini). Does anyone have any experience with RGB color labs and their processing service?

Thanks!

I had them process some 35mm, it came back just fine. I would definitely use them again.

It was motion picture film. Haven't used them for 16mm, but I can't imagine that it would be any less quality.
