speed ramping time lapse

Post by soundboy »

I'm newbie wih filming S8, So i have been experimenting a little.
Yesterday I recieved back one of my K40 rolls from the developer.

A few months ago I experimented with my Minolta 84XL shooting some timelapse of clouds moving through the sky using the one frame trigger.

I started off shooting 1 frame every 10 seconds for 20 minutes then I shot 1 frame every 5 seconds for a 10 minutes then 1 frame every 2 sec for ten minutes.

The footage came out with an awesome speed ramp effect with vision of the clouds moving fast then slowing down.... Matrix style....

I did not have a tripod so I rested the camera on a ladder when filming , the footage was a little jumpy but still came out pretty cool.

that sounds really cool! I'll have to give it a try. One cool thing I found while doing timelapses is changing the zoom or position of the camera between each manual triggered frame. Gives quite the effect :D

that sounds like a good idea.. a lot of patients on your part to shoot it manually. i did a 12 hour sky lapse at 1 frame per minute with an interval timer. clouds have a lot more detail on film too.

be sure to show your project to some DV fans :D

I'm working on a little clip that varies time in a different way.
Lots of post-production work, and the clouds move at 20 time speed, the waves move at real speed and the girl walks at halfspeed.

Only DV this time though - I was just playing.

I like it. (only imagine that I said it, the same way that dude Red from That 70's Show says it in his role as the main bad guy in Robocop)

A bit warm for your tastes?
Yeah, I'll give you that, but I think it'll turn out like I wanted but the time I see it on a TV from the DVD. Sunset in Portugal

It's not meant as some example of the greatest timelapse work ever, just to ilustrate some more ideas on how to have fun with your timelapse footage - If you end up with it on a PC you can composite up whole lot of stuff pretty easily.
