new and needs help

Post by bulldog »

Hi all. I am totally new to super 8 cameras so please bear with me if my questions seem stupid or elementary. I just got a super 8 sound camera, Canon 514XL-S. I've been trying to read up and understand that Kodak is no longer making sound film. Can I use silent film in my camera? Also what do I need to record and sync? I guess that's a pretty good start so I welcome any and all info that anyone has to offer. Thanks

Keller,
Yes, you can use silent film in a sound camera, but you can't use sound film in a silent camera. However, sound films are really hard to aquire these days so the only (realistic) film type is silent film.

Many people record sound with an external MD recorder/player or an analogue tape recorder or similare. The sound is later manually synced on a computer. However, if you really want correct synced sound the whole time, you ought to read more about crystal sync.
