Is Discontinued Plus-X Film More Valuable Now?

Post by Henderson »

I have some I need to get rid of and was wondering what a fair price would be. Anyone know?

I do not believe it is worth any more or less than its face value. I believe the labs are using the new chemicals to process the older stocks. I'm not sure of the details but you might want to do a search on the board, there's a mention of it somewhere.
My needs are few but very expensive.

Franklin Labs is still processing the old stock at the old ASA, at the same price.

-So it is just as usable as it ever was.

(They do the new one as well)

Same as it ever was.... excuse me if I remember back to a Talking Heads music video...

Franklin will do you right if you still have the old Plus-X film. I have lots of 16mm Plus-X to shoot and it is all the older stock. If and when no one offers the old processing = no problem. Just expose it at 100 ASA and the new chemicals will give you excellent results. The finished film will be a little grainer than when it is processed in the older chemicals, but it will have a one-stop "push" which usually gives you a littel more grain anyway. So the key is to know how it will be developed before you shoot so that you know to either expose it as 50 ASA or 100 ASA.

It is Super 8. I can part with 40 rolls (two sealed boxes of twenty) at $9/cartridge. Free shipping (to contigous 48 United States) if you take the whole lot.

$9 each is fair but buying 40, or even 20, is beyond my means at the moment. I wish I could afford the whole lot, particularly since it's no longer available.

You might try eBay, making sure bidders know that it's fresh film that is no longer being made.
