Looking for telecine/scanning of 16mm in USA
Hi,
I have about 9min of processed negative 16mm color film which I would like to get scanned on to a digi beta tape/dv-tape. I will do the color correcting myself later because Im on a tight budget so I just need a basic scanning of the film. Were can I do this in USA, I need something cheap. Help me out! Norway is way way to expensive so I can just forget about doing it here.

The Film Group in Conn. Will do negative or reversal for only$90 an hour. A one light will be about 1.5 to 2 times the hourly rate for each hour of play time. According to their add it seems as though they only transfer at 24 fps. So if you shot it at the sound speed you should be o.k. And if I remember correctly, they will charge in 15 minute increments.
Hi Marius,
A one light, if the maximum is 1.5 to 2 times the playing time, might be ( assuming some prep time) a maximum of 30 to 45 minutes ( I am guessing). And that might be a liberal figure. Although the web site indicates that the 1.5 to 2 times the running time is just that. So maybe it will only be 15 to 30 minutes at the most. I guess this would come out to 25 to 45 dollars. Just e mail them and ask.

Marius,
I hope you're aware that most American scans are done in NTSC. It's a different format than PAL, which we use here in Norway.
I you can wait a little I'll start offering scans at 1000,- NOK per hour (pluss mva).

to Actor:
I just tried the place you gave me the link to and they will scan my 300' of film over to a mini-dv for $90 including shipping since I was a student and all the way from Norway. They also said they only transfer in NTSC, but Im thinking of converting It over to PAL at a place in Oslo.
Im gonne wait for Andres to answer my question before I do anything, would be sick If he could do it, kind of a hazzle to ship it to USA and then convert it back to PAL again.
Are the place you told me about any good Actor? Do they do quality scanning's?

?!? why don't you just describe the scene to a chimp and have it draw the frames on a circa 1976 video generator? should give you similar quality for much less. ;-) if you want to do it in a way that at least somewhat resembles the proper one you have to transfer to pal. talk to film schools and tv stations in your area. i'm often able to get free (a bottle of scotch for the operator) scans at these places.Marius wrote:They also said they only transfer in NTSC, but Im thinking of converting It over to PAL at a place in Oslo.
