do we need a FAQ?

Post by jessh »

it seems to me that a lot of the same questions come up on here, so maybe it is time that we make a document that contains actual Frequently Asked Questions with answers, if for no other reason than it will let us yell at people and tell them they should have read the FAQ :-)

YES. There already are some out there. I am always amazed at how little research people do before asking a basic camera or battery question.

Here are two FAQs (among others) that are pretty useful:

http://lavender.fortunecity.com/lavende ... r8faq.html

This is a more general all-format film FAQ:
http://www.redballoon.net/~snorwood/faq2.html

And then there is also typing in "Super-8mm filmmaking" on a search engine which is how I got hundreds of helpful urls...

I would not be too concerned to put every possible question in a FAQs. I notice they tend to slow down forum traffic.

I know some questions do arise repeatedly, but often these threads change to interesting digressions and different solutions are offered - basically the forum stays interesting and relevant.

This is speaking from experience.

I think making the "Manual" section more prominent would makes things easier for newbies and DIYers.

making it easy

The set up for lots of information is great at vcdhelp.com

That subject is much more complicated than, well, small format film making.

There is one FAQ more on Anssi Puisto's web site:

What about a better search engine for the old posts?

R
..tnx for reminding me Michael Lehnert.... or Santo or.... cinematography.com super8 - the forum of Rednex, Wannabees and Pretenders...

What I was thinking was just a couple of basic questions like where to buy film, where to get it processed, etc... I know there are lots of faq's already but just a quick link for new people would be nice, im sure they will still have plenty of questions to ask, and be a bit more informed to begin with, without having to wait for an answer.

Yep!
A new section called "BASICS" or something similare (any ideas?) will be written soon. This chapter will cover the very basics regarding 8mm filming. However, I'd like to get the backend content delivery system up and working first. Some weeks maybe..?
