Best way to clean film?

Post by disjecta »

Questions, questions....I have a lot recently 8)

What is the usual method for cleaning film? Do you mount the film on a projector and move the reels manually while rubbing the film with a cloth or how is it done exactly?

Also, what's the best way to keep a projector lubricated? Is it necessary, how do I do it if it is?

Thanks,

Steven

I recently have been looking into this too.

From what I have read on the net, the usual way is to put your film on two spindles, (like and editor), put cleaning solution on a lint free cloth, put the film inbetween the cloth and let it roll.

For severe cases of bad/vinegar/brittle film, I've seen some say pour the cleaning solution in an empty reel can and soak your film on it's reel in the solution for 24 hours.

Select "Search" from the upper part of the page and put "cleaning", "isopropyl" etc to the search field.
