I am ready to have all of my 30+ year old 8mm and Super8 transfered to MiniDV but I am afraid to send it off to for transfer. It's my entire families history and to lose it would be devastating.
I want to do a quick transfer to minidv to have some form of backup before I do send it off.
Can anyone recommend a good projector? All I have is a non-working B&H. I'm looking for something a little more upscale with variable speed (18-24) in the dual format.
Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a good projector for a simple transfer?

When you say a little more upscale than B&H, I will suggest Sankyo 2000H. I had the Chinons (Whisper, 2-7xxx Series) but the Sankyo's are well built and have more stable image. I have also tried the Elmos - K110, K100, SP Deluxe, etc. but , in most cases, the image tend to flicker and move a lot. It can be resolved with fine adjustments but you will opt to quit at times.
Even a little more upscale will be the Elmo ST-180ETC if you can find one. The Braun Visacustic 1000 or 2000 are excellent too.
Top of the list is the GS-1200 and Beaulieu 708EL. It was mentioned somewhere the Beaulieu has a larger gate, more stable image, requires less tweaking but I have not confirmed that.
...then, of course, is the Moviestuff Workprinter that tops it all.

Bauer T5 is a good one with a variable speed controller which will help remove flickering.
