It Could Have Been An Excellent SnowBo Clip

There was a pretty outstanding Snowboard meeting at my neighbourhood alpine slope tonight including several international "hot shots" - Heikko Sorsa was one - Ingemar Backman another - and I was planning to honour the snow-boarding members here by shooting the event on some S8 Fuji 500T.

Unfortunately there was access limitations to the area which ruined my plan. The guard looked at the beefy lens front of my Canon 1014 XL-S (I put it right up in his face!) and almost let me though by surprise but he recovered in time unfortnately. A press card was needed (I could have had one but never thought of it) so the remaining shoot areas was trash and I did not accomplish any good shots. I got so disappointed that I left the area soon after leg 1.

I did shoot some seconds with the Fuji F500T - leftover from the time lapse cart - New Year one - so it will be interesting to see what it looks like when transferred. I planned to shoot one complete F500T cart on this "project".

Anyway - I post a MiniDV clip for reference - 10 MB. Not a top boarder on this one. The press area was on the left of the slope. My 500T was shot from the right side.

Nice coverage with the 500T - makes me want to start using something other than the usual 3 reversal films. By the way, what camera did you use to shoot that? XL I would imagine...

This clip was shot with a Sony DCR PC120 palmcorder. Brought it for sound recording only but I decided to give it 1! shot of the boarders as well.

I measured the avail light reflected from the snow in the touch down area through my 1014 (using the snow as a "grey card") and it came out like this:

Canon 1014 XL-S data:
Measured aperture: f2.8 (I set it manually to f1.4 - wide open)
Film speed: ISO 500 - set to ISO 400/tungsten mode
Shutter Angle: 150Ã‚Â°
Filming Speed: 18 fps.

Sony Data:
Aperture: f1.8, 15-18dB

The light sources was on the left side of the slope - where the press guys were allowed - while I was restricted to shoot from the right side of the so I do not expect a lot. WeÃ‚Â´ll have to wait and see.

hey, thanks for posting that clip, looked to be a clean bs 7? stomped!

heres a clip from the same day(the pillows) but in Whistler BC combined with a couple other shots. This clips not for the movie Im making this winter but for a web site I maintain and develop. The movies going to be all super 8 . I shot this on a vx2000 and is my friend vanessa stark.

the guys are are on 8 and are up to much nuttier lines.

We spent so much time in this area over the last weeks, almost 4-6 hours a day hiking different pillow lines. Should make for some great super 8

Are you planning on shooting any other snowboard stuff this winter?

Really cool! I was planning to go to that contest to, but missed It sadly!
Im gonne film some snowboard very soon though when I get home to my current resident. Can post clips on this site, just dont know how?!

Hope to see more boarding on the site!!

Well, I am no snowboarder so I do not know the names on the configs. Sorry abt that.

Did my fair share of all sorts of skibatics in the 60Ã‚Â´s covering it all: Ski jumping, Alpine, Cross Country, Off piste and sort of freestyle with Telemark Style skis. Check my avtar ;-)

Very nice clip you posted.
We used to do that on telemark style or "jet" skis back then.

I see from the program on the web site of the organizers of the event I attended yesterday that they are going to do some more later. I will see if I can join then for some more spectacular shooting on S8.
There will be another 2 or 3 events but they are not international.
