DS8 Question

Does anyone know whether it's still possible to get hold of Double Super 8 stock? I'm thinking of dusting down my Canon DS8 if I can get film to put in it!

Hi.
As i heard a few days ago, Andec in Berlin sells Black&White
Fomapan stock. 100 ASA Reversal. Nice filmmaterial.
As i heard from a friend they sell 33ft/10 m reels and absolutely new 100ft/30,5 Meter reels ( EUR 27,50
+ VAT + Postage) , Iam waiting for Standard 8 stock and
have heard, that this now avaible. http://www.andecfilm.de .
Wittner Kinotechnik in Hamburg sells the last Kodachrome
25 in DS8. http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de .

I heard from John that he's out of Foma until October, but check out:

$15 for 200' is really hard to beat!
And he has some K25 for like $56 or around that, processing included.

The Foma's a really decent stock. Looks OK. By far the cheapest way to shoot film. $32 for 200' stock and processing/slitting.

Why can't there be some color that cheap!?

after several calls and armtwisting at kodak, i found out they have k25 ds8 in 100 foot rolls, processing included for $56.00. unfortunately no quantity discounts. contact steveg@kodak.com

I can sell Fomapan R100 DS8 B/W cine film new on 10m reel for EUR 12,00 per reel, postage within Europe is included! I buy the film in Czech Republic and use it with my russian Quarz cameras. Sorry but I do not develop the film (I do the reversal development only for myselfe and the Fomapan works very well). I can deliver Fomapan R100 D8 at the same prices and terms.

I'd like to buy these Fomapan reels perhaps in the future.

I haven't DS8 camera yet, but I have discussed about one Workprinter transfer deal.

The client has mint Canon Scoopic DS8, he is offering it as a part of barter trade, meaning I'd do the big transfer (30 hours) and get cameras (Beaulieu and Canon ones) and some money too.

I have heard, that Fomapan isn't 100% suitable direct for Canon's mechanism. There is a little difference between these West-world and East-Europe DS8 standard.

Before you install the reel on it, you have to file the part of reel hole away, then it fits the Canon fastening, is it true or not?

And if you'd be interested in my Workprinter transfer service (2 Euro/minute, 10 minute of film, will cost you 20 Euro) super 8 to dv, then
we could also discuss about some kind of barter trade?

Hello.
There are no differences known between east and west. Super 8
are standard. But the quality of perforation and a bad quality
base side can make possible, that former products from Foma/
Orwo or Svema runs with problems. Since 2-3 years Fomapan
works with a better quality as before. ( They must sell it worldwide). Make a test and see.

There's differences between west cine standarts & ex-communistes countries standarts, but not in super8 or double-super8 as far as I know. 16mm is the same west from est. In 35mm cinÃƒÂ©, there's some differents between West SMPTE standart & Est GOST Standarts, but ( I may be wrong ) only with registration pin cameras. I don't think FOMA is GOST standart but SVEMA is. Konvas cameras don't have to be kodak perforations changed but Kinor needs it. Ect...

FWIW, I ran 100' of R100 through my Canon DS8 a few weeks ago. Everything went fine. Except when my friend decided to give me some help while I was loading, and shined a flashlight in there for me. Doh!

I think the 10m spools are on R8 spools, so some folks had to pop out the middles.

You know I have shot several rolls of fomapan regular 8 on 33ft reels and every time I try to run a spool through the Bolex it jams time and time again. If I run a roll of B&W or Kodachrome in the same P1 camera I hardly ever have any trouble with jams. I was beginning to think it was the film, so I ran a couple of rolls through a Bell & Howell 414 with flawless results. I loved the look of the stock after processing as well. It is a cheap alternative and a good stock. DOUBLE SUPER 8 ? I think I might like to try that myself, wish I had a DS8 camera.

Another option would be to reload it into Super8 carts, just use an 8mm film splitter and then cut it in half and load it into a cartridge. does anyone know a place that will process it in the US? I want to get my hands on some of those reloadable carts to try it, but havent bothered yet since I am not setup to process it.
