Will Pinnacle Studio DC10+ capture card do stop-motion?

Post by Bart Sanders »

Hello,

Working on a setup to transfer film to a non-linear editing system like Premiere, I will use an analog camcorder, use only the vidcam part of it, an analog capture card and said Preimier.

Do any of you know if Pinnacle Studio DC10+ card works with Adobe Premiere's stop-motion capture function??

Hi, Bart!

I do not believe that the DC-10 will do it but I could be wrong. It seems like one of my WorkPrinter clients had the DC-10 and it either did not do it or it did it very slow; I can't remember which. I think possibly it was just slow. I guess I'm not much help and am just taking up bandwidth. Pretty pathetic, actually, so why did I bother posting? Sorry.

Hi Bart -

You could always download a trial version of Premiere 6.0 from http://www.adobe.com. I'm not sure, but I would think that this trial version would let you try out the stop-motion capture capability.

Are you using Windows or Mac?

Pinnacle Studio DC10+, more info and....

Hoi,

First, thanx to the answers untill know. Im am/will use WIN98.

Sad enough, I read comments in the various forums (fora?) which are conflicting: some people are satisfied, others are not.... Sigh.

Because I want to grab each frame at a time (Workprinter like) a stop-motion function like Adobe's Premiere has to be used for capturing.

Anybody using such a setup (Workprinter users)?

Adobe Premiere's stop-motion capture function should work with any OHCI card using a DV camera.
There is also a program called StopMotion Pro (http://www.stopmotionpro.com).

Yea, I'm back.
Yes, the DC30+ does do single frame stopmotion frames from VidCap. Premiere, too.
My computer got fried in a storm and now I have a Athalon 1050 . Lately, I've been evaluating the ATI128 pro 32 MB card which was only used for video overlay previously.
I'll let you know how the DC30 card works after I try to install it again on this new fast board. I think all that is needed is to deselect and 'not use' any function and that is in the way as it was on my Pll300 board. I'm hopeing the transfer machine it'll work at full WorkPrinter speed of 6fps what with the supplied Raid on the new motherboard.

Well, the card will not install anymore. The CAPCDC.DRV cannot be loaded, the device is not seen. Direct X 8.1 is installed and that may be what is messing it up. All the ATI drivers were removed prior to attempting to use miroDC30+ but it didn't work. It used to work with Direct X 7.0.

Install

Post by digvid »

DirectX 8.1 is fully backward compatible with applications that used 7.0 unless the people who wrote your capture card drivers put a specific check in their code to make it only work with 7.0. That would definitely be a no-no on Pinnacle's part.

Have you tried uninstalling all software & drivers for the DC30+, and then re-installing with driver version 1.42?

DC30+ was made way earlier than Direct X 8 so there shouldn't be a problem with that check.
I have 1.32. It USED to work. However, I will try the other driver...later.
I did uninstall everything like you said.

Morgan

Post by reg8mm »

I wanted to play my old captured MJPEG files made with miroVIDEO so I got Morgan and installed it. That isn't supposed to be in there with miro so that is why I'm gonna wait to try any more.

There are a lot of things to try out at this level of configuration.

Thanks

Oh, I don't know what version of Direct X miro wants to load. The video card used 7 and was an upgrade. So, 6 at most was used.

Studio 400 used 5 and stopped working after Direct X 6 was installed.

After a try installing the miroDC30+ card on a new Win98 installation it wouldn't load the CAPCDC.DRV again. The card must be fried. That can be the only reason. Nothing else was installed and all plug and plays were canceled.
So, the Direct X 8 or 8.1 may NOT be the reason that miro didn't install, it may indeed do so if the card is not fried.

Later,

Looks like I need a brand new DIGITAL system for video editing.
