If this is the case, I may not be able to handle creating a DVD(not for PAL anyhow). TMPEGenc is great if your planing on burning a DVD at home after encoding. I don't have a DVD burner. I was planning on outputing the final master to miniDV(NTSC) and burning the DVD's in realtime through my company's patch bay from DV deck to DVD burner(no encoding to be done prior). If this machine can burn a PAL DVD in realtime from an NTSC DV tape, then great, if not someone else may want to volunteer making the PAL DVD's.
I'll get back to you on the burner's compatibility.

Cheers,
Simon.

aren't you editing in pal or are you planning to convert the footage first? if so i must strongly advice against it. film originated footage has to be converted in a different way (i.e. change speed to 23.976 fps then apply pulldown), and this is even more true if converting from ntsc to pal (which involves pulldown removal and speeding up to 25 fps). any other conversion method will break the smooth flow of discrete frames and create a jumpy and blurred result.

I am indeed going to edit in an AVID PAL environment, and was planning on outputing to DV in 2 stages. The 1st, borough or rent a PAL/NTSC miniDV deck(I believe Sony models DSR11 and DSR25 can playback and record both NTSC and PAL but not convert from one to the other), and crash PAL to tape via IEEE1394, 2nd, do my own conversion from quicktime reference in AfterEffects, import the new converted .mov into an NTSC workspace in the AVID and output this to tape(NTSC) via firewire as well. I've never dealt with PAL before, so it might pose a bit of a challenge. Anyone with a PAL post background is welcome to offer suggestions.
Cheers,
Simon.

As for an SVCD upload, I imagine I will be creating 2 versions(NTSC/PAL). :?:

sounds like a plan. that's how i do it too. the easiest and best conversion is made by simply "interpreting" the pal footage as 23.976 fps progressive, add it to an ntsc composition and render with pulldown. email me at mattias@beauty.se if you run into any trouble.

Just to confirm, for those who want the film on Mini Dv tape, we need three tapes each. One tape for the final edited film and the other two tapes for the raw footage (rushes.) Since most of us only sent in two tapes, I guess we should all chip in a little extra for the cost of the third tape when our payments are due. Those who want a DVD instead or as an additional request would pay accordingly of course.

So how much and where do I send the money?

I had in mind all 3 final outputs. 1 file for upload to this site, 1 on DVD and 1 on miniDV. We all should have sent 2 miniDV tapes to andreas for the raw footage. A third tape and a blank DVD will also be needed from each participant for the final edited master. I would need these items from each participant for the final edit. You could either send me these items via mail or I could collect money(I will figure out the cost) from those wanting a DVD and miniDV master edit. I will see if I can burn the DVD's and output to miniDV(PAL & NTSC) for free, if not, a small fee might also be needed. I might even rent or buy a DVD burner as well as a Sony DSR 11(PAL/NTSC playback & recording). If everyone is cool with that, let me know. I welcome any and all suggestions.

Cheers,
Simon.

Tapes with raw footage and downloading the finished movie sounds ok.
But I must admit I don't remember if I sent you VHS or DV tapes...

Anyways.... I'm super stoaked about this. Hope we all agree soon and get this project movin....

If I remember correctly, I sent you a VHS cassette.
I'd like to have the final version (the edited film) transferred on it, if possible.
Thanks,
Giovanni

Andreas;
Any idea on when the raw footage will be sent out(just curious)? I will be ready to start editing as soon as the tapes arrive.

Cheers,
Simon.
