This is to anyone who has a Kinoflex Quartz camera, I need a little help. I just got mine through the mail a few days ago, everything seems pretty straightforward but a few questions:
I just can't work out, what does the dial that says +2.. 0.. -2 do?
Is the viewfinder meant to be put in as far as possible? (Assuming that your vision is okay.)
Lastly, is the camera supposed to come with a rubber eye-cup? If not, where can I get one?
Thanks in advance for any answers. Cheers,

Hi Edwin!
What sort or Kiniflex do you mean? There are 8mm and 35mm Kinoflex cameras. I can only help you if yours is a Super-8.

Quartz Super8 ASA speed dial
Hello,
Bought mine a few months ago. The +2, -2 dial is the film speed setting knob. If I remeber well the "0" position is regular K40 with daylight filter.
The knob actually "fools" the exposure meter and so you can influence its behaviour. From what I read the exposure meter is not that reliable. Mine is. A testfilm came out well exposed. In fact, it is a very good camera, steady holding, rock-solid frame position and a sharp lens. For that money, I doubt you get a better price/quality ratio....
I will post my little table for ASA settings when at home.
Regards,
Bart

Hi Edwin!
The cameras automatic exposure meter is calibrated for 50 ASA. The camera does not read the films ASA rating from the notch in the S-8 cartridge as almost all other cameras do. You have to override the standard 50 ASA calibration by turning the knob to -1 for 100 ASA, to -2 for 200 ASA, to +1 for 25 ASA and to +2 for 12 ASA Films.
There is a very small rubber eyepiece on the camera.
To adjust the viewfinder open the fixation screw left of the viewfinder. Look at a bright surface and match focus for appreture indicator and the ring around the micro prisms you see in the viewfinder. Do not forget to lock fixation screw finaly. You can also put Lens to infinity and focus some far away objects, the result will be the same.
You need two 1.35V microcells for automatic exposure, do not use 1,5V microcells when replacing, the exposuremeter will be wrong or damaged!
For single frame shooting the camera has only one exposure time, it is 1/20s, you can not change this time by changing the cameras frame rate.

Thanks
Thanks Walter and Bart for that info. There was no way I could have guessed that dial's function, cheers for that.
I am really stoked to have that camera, I like using wind up motor cameras and I think that is one of the few s8 cams to have that.
Cheers,
