The Bauer device shown below, "title slide attachment" allows titles/text to be superimposed "live"onto S8 film. This option is most useful for films intended to be projected.
According to a old booklet Bauer C500, C700, C900 +S305XL. S307XL and S609XL (but not the 715) was supplied with this as a standard device.
Although I have not tried it I belive that titles can be produced on PCs, printed (with a high res printer) on projection (overhead) film and cut to fit into slide frames and then superimosed. Any title is then easily available just as a plain title or superimposed.

Yes, it did not work. I printed some titles with a very good Xerox laser printer to a overhead projector film and cutted it into a slide frame. I used the highest resolution available but still the image (the title text) was very grainy when projected and the colours... bad, very bad. Like not bright or strong enough. It might work better with black titles. Mine were green, red and brown.
So, do your titles with pc, mac or whatever, print it to a paper and take a photo of it (slide if you use colours). I did a white text on black background slide by using b/w negative film.
BTW, Sankyo 255 XL comes with the same kinda slide attachment... I have some original slides that came with it, happy birthday, summer holiday, xmas... and some neat masks, keyhole, binoculars, heart... my favourite one.

Even the "best" lasers might not print as sharp as you should imagine. I was more thinking of a photgrade printer with approx 1440 DPI enhanced/custom setting or so.
Even my old MAC laser LW 16/600 has 2 extra options for high grade prints: FINE PRINT & PHOTO GRADE. This improves the text outlines a lot if black text is used (recommended). However, it slows down the print processing so it not used by default. Works fine with 1 bit dept (black) but gray shades will turn up grainy still (print dots)
Anybody tried this with a photo grade inkjet printer?
I have a similare device for my Beaulieu and I got a Canon titler add-on aswell. I've never tried them out and I most likely will never do it either. I'm moving all my films over to video as soon as I've shot them. Originals are stored incase I would need them later.
