I just won a B+W photo enlarger on ebay. I'm thinking about making prints from some of the better frames of my 16mm negative and possibly super 8 positive films. Anyone ever try this, and how did it turn out?
Cheers, Simon.

Re: Photo prints from frames
I bought one of those 1945 Revere 8mm/16mm enlargers in hopes of finding a way to directly digitize the enlarged image. This project has now been backburnered in favor of a more indirect approach.vidwerk wrote:I just won a B+W photo enlarger on ebay. I will soon have one of those Fujica Macrocinecopy units and will enlarge each 8mm frame to 35mm, then scan normally using a Nikon 4000ED. At that point, I can print to any size I desire...and intend to test the "envelope" of K25 film

We'll see!

It all depends upon the audience. I find I can quickly guage whether I shoudl even begin to attempt to spend time explaining the image and how it originated (be it 5p stereo film, super 8, 35mm, polariod emulsion transfers, B&W home made prints, etc, etc).kodachromearchive wrote:... but many tell me that enlargements beyond 6X4 are unacceptable.

However, I have happily blown up super 8mm with a 8000dpi scan of the strip, then reduced that to 300dpi for printing on a Noritsu for a nice 8x12...of course, the image is not meant to be viewed within arms reach...it should be on a wall and give it a couple of feet to enjoy the feel of it.
Just my two cents.
My lightning shot on Lake Tahoe (see my website) is the example I refer to...and the image was tough to take in the first place on a bouncing boat, etc. So, if I had of applied that same process to a tripod super 8 shot of a face/person, of course you could produce a 8x10.
Cheers,
Michael
