Sent my K40 direct to Lausanne today

Post by Sonic Truth »

Hello peeps.

Today i sent a roll of K40 which i used to test my new beaulieu 2008 off to be processed. I decided to send it direct to the swiss adress on the mailer rather than the london address, so i will keep you posted as to whether it comes back any quicker.

The cost of this was 85p in english money.

When I tried this, from the US, it took 2-3 months to return to me, and the envelope was super beat up. I don't know why.

I recently got 4 rolls back from Switzerland that was mailed direct from the U.S. (Kentucky to be exact).

The rolls came back in around 3 or 4 weeks. Quality was excellent. Packing was limited, they were just stuck in an envelope, but they survived w/ no problems...

btw- I've also been using Walmart - which is 2 weeks and 4.50 a roll, but they almost lost my first roll... took 3 weeks, but I finally got it. Overall seems to be a good deal. I stopped ordering prepaid because of it.

Should I stop using my local camera shop that charges $11.99 here in Sacramento? How exactly do you do it at walmart (I mean I know, just want to here any special things I should put on the envelope, etc - I have lost precious negs dropping them into one of those DROP-BOXES at SAMS CLub one time. So now I do Costco and they take it by hand and do one hour - super cheap for 25mm...I shudder at the thought of those yahoos at Wally mart dealing with my film...

I use the Pre-Paid Kodachrome: $13.50/cartridge with processing included, 10-14 days door to door, and over twenty rolls to date without any problems.

Sweet Deal!

In the UK all Kodachrome is pre-paid, and eventually gets sent to switzerland for processing.

Dwaynes is the only US place that does K40 processing.

In the uK the usual route is to post the film to London, which then gets sent on to Switzerland, but hopefully by sending the film direct I'll get it back quicker, so ill wait and see.

I was suprised to find that all the Walmarts in my area process super 8 - Often the people at the counter don't know, but look for the glossy flip cards that list all their services. You'll find it in special processing, w/ B&W film. It just says "Movie/Cine Film Processing" or something. You just write this on the 'special instructions' box on the processing envelope.

I've heard they send to Dwayne's but I'm not sure... Because they send it out, you've just got to trust they won't loose it when it comes back... The only problem I had was some employees not knowing what I meant when I said I was picking up movie film... They thought I was getting a VHS tape :)

Dwayne's is great too... I use them for anything 'important' or anything I want back faster. They can do very fast turnaround compared to other K40 options.

Hi,
Just to chip in on sending direct to Kodak in Switzerland. I've sent a couple of rolls of K40 direct and the turn around was about two weeks as opposed to the usual three or so. I've found it makes quite a difference which day of the week you post to Kodak at Deer Park in the UK though as they probably only have one shipment per week out to Lausanne. I haven't tried the "express" service from Lausanne as I don't usually remember to get any Euros from the Post Office in time!

well, the next thing im gonna try out is the express service, i dont think anyone knows the exact price though, although a few prevoius threads have speculated on this.

widescreen centre (rip-off centre) charge £10 for express, and pro 8mm london, charge
about £14 ex vat.
