Practical size limit for single frame 8mm enlargementprints?
How far can you go while preserving sharpness? This is *not* a theoretical question, I'm really hoping to hear from those who have actually done the deed....

Well there's a question and an area where I have dabbled.
As much as I have done was to transfer single images from super 8 to Kodak 200 and 1000 asa films in a very makeshift manner.
The 200 neg yeilded the best resolution but the 1000 got the colors and brightness, mind you the original image was projected from a Eumig 926 stereo machine manually with the lamp at pre-warm straight into an SLR without a lens. The projector lens was used to find the focus. So from the start for imaging purposes, it was a poor light source and iffy set-up. Kodachrome 200 slide film is not too bad. In anycase the light source meant guessing the exposure time. I simply held the shutter open and counted till I thought it might have had enough light.
The outcome wasn't too bad all things considered and a recent treatment of a neg through PC enhancement for color, brightness and contrast indicated that it was presentable up to a fair size.
That size being A3 or perhaps A2 paper.
