Silent camera
Looking for a camera that makes no noise so I can record sound digitally while filming...as well I'm looking for something that can shoot in very low light, also which makes no noise, and has a wide angle lense, or at least has the ability to have a wide-adapter attached (maybe this type of camera does not exist and im being too picky, trying to find something i can film with in a tent on winter ski expeditions, for a film im doing this winter)...anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help, its much appreciated!

bauers...
A sound Bauer will suffice for your needs. I used a wide angle adapter on a Bauer 305 XLS and was very pleased. Look here for more:

what you definetely need is a braun nizo 6080 with an ultrawide lens III attachment. (it's funny, your descripiton of the camera you need matches almost word by word what people say about this cam).
it is certainly the most silent cam ever made and the uwl III (with a 67 mm thread, not the other nizo uw lenses) has a 83° angle.
if you need super8 a silent uw capable camera, that is wat you will want to get. i believe all the senior pro members of this forum will agree.
i am the lucky owner of both and i sometimes don't even hear the cam spinning!!

The C-8 adaptor this person talks about sounds pretty nifty. Also, the small size of the 514 xl-s might be a good idea considering your purposes. I don't think it's the quietest camera, but it's probably reasonable. You are filming in a tent, not a sound stage, so it might be quiet enough? 814 xl-s, 1014 xl-s a lot more pricey, but excellent cameras.
If you really need super quiet, sound Nizos are hard to beat (the ones with the 4 digits -- 3056, 4056 4080 -- up to 6080). And there is a wide angle adaptor that usually seems to often be available for sale. But you are very likely going to have to buy one off ebay and get it from Europe.

the nizo 6080 has a 220° shutter angle, giving the following shutter speeds:
9 fps 1/16
18 fps 1/32
24 fps 1/43
54 fps 1/96
shutter speeds.
besides it is really, really silent. the wide angle you can get it from ebay for something around 100$. the cam should be something around 300$ (compendium included. i got mine for about 100$ at a time where ebay france was called ibazar and the previous owner thought it was just and old machine)

definitely a very good camera (never used one, but from the specs).. not sure how quiet it is, but since it is a sound camera, it shouldnt be too bad...Jordan wrote:I found a BAUER S 709 XL on ebay for 220...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=4691

the f=1:1.2 lens with 6mm on the wide end sounds like what you're looking for and the XL in the name usually indicates a LL shutter (220 or so)...
220 bucks seems to be a good price with all the extras included.. final bid will likely be higher.
just some thoughts

rarity...
One camera ihave done the write up on but have yet to post the new webpage is the ELMO SuperWide with a 4.something mm wide angle lens. It is focus free. However, silent it is not, it is loud by today's standards for a sound camera. Oh well, it is a fantastic work of art for its day.
You won;t find one on the net - I found mine from some old list on a deserted website - the guy still had it. A real gem for what it offers (the superwide part that is).
Stay tuned to my website for more.
Cheers,
Michael

I have found a Nizo 4080 and a Bauer S 709 XL (inlcuding mattebox and filters) both on ebay for pretty much the exact same price...only problem is the 2 auctions end at the same time, so i cant bid on both...for the reasons of use (top of the page) does anyone have an opinion which camera i should bid on?

Completely and entirely agree with this post. I am an avid owner and fan. Buy the 4080 or 6080 - they are the best for sync sound by far. The 6080 is superior however - the 4080 and 6080 aren't as near-identical as some people make out. The 4080 is still an excellent camera though.Pepe wrote:what you definetely need is a braun nizo 6080 with an ultrawide lens III attachment.
