Thanks Paul I'll check out TomsHardware. I got a cheap-0 Raid Controller off e-Bay, should do the trick.

Sorry to hear about your HW problems. If it is more than one encoder that is freezing your machine that might indicate a HW problem. Did anything change in your setup? Obviously I would check the normal things first virus, memory check (make sure they are seated well), disable the nic card, double check the drives (DMA), monitor the processor (make sure nothing it pegging it to 100%) etc.
