In My Image DVD news
Hi everyone just to give you an update - I've been bogged down with a alot of other committments for the last week or two so haven't got as much done on it as I was hoping but it's still progressing none the less
At the moment it looks like the DVD will comprise the following and this is not definite yet and is subject to change
Disc One
In My Image (running time 90 minutes approx)
Scene selection index
Optional commentaries - one by the director, and one by the DOP
Disc Two
Making of Doco (Approx 15 to 20 mins in length)
Out takes (8 mins)
Deleted Scenes (30 mins approx with optional commentary by the director)
Behind the scenes photos
The trailer for the film
Sleeping On Her Couch (short film)
The web page for the film
The shooting script
A windows screen saver (this, the web page and the script will depend on how easy it is to combine movie and ROM content)
Scot McPhie's Acting Show Reel (shameless self promotion I know!)
David Rusanow's DOP'ing Show Reel (hopefully!)
Tristan Curries artwork (funny drawings from a bored 1st AD!)
A couple of funny audio recordings caught between filming
I'm still getting quotes for the burning of the DVD's - I'm very keen to burn the film onto a dual layer disc so I can keep it as uncompressed as possible.
None of this is definite and I might have to burn them on my computer yet - whatever happens it will be reflected in the price!
I'm still getting my mind around the authoring software but I think it should be fine - so hopefully it's still only a few weeks away - but I'll keep you all informed!

Yeah I agree some times I've noticed the layer change - other times I haven't - but if I do get it done as a dual layer I'll make sure the change is in an unobtrusive point - perhaps there is somewhere where it fades to black

Scott, I am curious...I assume that obviously in the credits of the film you included the film stock that was used in your feature but did you also state that this was a super 8 stock? I think that the viewing audience would get a real kick out of this - watching a well crafted film which they may assume was shot on 16mm or something and then finding out in the credits that it was in fact shot on super 8.

That's a good point Patrick - in the credits I do state that the principal photography was done with a Beaulieu 4008ZMII but most people won't know what that is of course -- yeah I will put it in - that'll be my bit in the fight for Super 8's good name!
For the record about 99% of the film is K40 - there's Roger's aeroplane effects which were on DS8 K25 I think - and there's about a 3 second miniDV shot - it'll be interesting seeing who can pick it!
On another point the company I had approached about the pressing of the discs just got back to me - they said for a DVD9 they have a minimum run of 300 - which is at $2 a disc but the cost of a glass master is $700-$1000. So this pretty well puts it out of my range - do these figures seem reasonable to everyone - this is Australian dollars too. They said that DVD9-R's are just coming out but won't be available till next year - so anyway it looks like I'll be doing it on my own DVD burner as single layer discs - I'll just make sure I do a really good encoding of the film to mpeg2

This won't be true for much longer according to these sources..."you can't burn dual layers, they have to be pressed"

*very* reasonable. the total cost including boxes and shrink wrap would be au$2000 at the most, which means if you sell the disc for au$30 you only have to sell 67 of them to break even and then you have 233 left to sell for profit...Scotness wrote:for a DVD9 they have a minimum run of 300 - which is at $2 a disc but the cost of a glass master is $700-$1000.
