ANDREAS, ANY NEWS FOR THE 500T?

Post by DIEFTHINTIS »

Hello
Why we haven't yet any news for the S8 Vision 2? I guess they had test the film before they gave it to you, so they only had to develop it, send it back and wait for your opinion.

I'll post some stills tonight from the testfilm I got back yesterday. The testfilm has been scanned on a Rank Cintel MarkIII and I received it on a DVD. I just have to find a proper way to rip the DVD to avi/mpg first.

Any suggestions?

Do not know if this is of any use:

http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/artic ... ide7a.html

I found it under a search for OSX .VOB file player/ripper.
I got a Fuji all Neg film demo DVD I wanted to rip the DVD/.VOB track off. Now I found something for the MAC but I need to install a few more components. Split due to rights that is.

Is it actually a DVD, or is it a DVD disc with video files on it?

I'm confused. I can't understand why anybody would go to the bother of getting a proper telecine and have it transferred to DVD!!?? MPEG2 is notoriously shite for editing and keeping quality.

So if it is a DVD its already mpg. Quicktime Pro is probably the cheapest bang for buck converter, but cleaner is the most flexible solution, but at a cost of course.

I'm having a hard time converting the DVD to AVI/MPG or even still pictures. This is a burnt DVD with .vob files on. Anyone know a simple tool to convert these files with?

Tim:
The film is a part of a test DVD with Vision 200T, Vision2 500T, Fuji 250 and 500 films on. It's not for editing, just for comparisons.

Maybe you´d contact DVD-Jon the one that broke the DVD copy code? Investigated by FBI? :-)

s-video out from your dvd player to video in on your xl-1 (or whatever you're using these days) out via firewire to a computer is probably the fastest way of converting to an "editable" codec. you migh see a very slight loss of resolution, but that will only help to remove the mpeg-2 artifacts...

I suppose it's not encrypted DVD, so you can just copy the vob file into hard disk and rename it to mpg ;-) Should be ok, since there is no sound and other "extras" needed for mpg file.....

Then all you need is editor wich can handle mpg2 files.

If you don't have one, you can use AviSynht with Vdub (both free wares) and convert the file into dv. There is lot of other freeware tools to do that on those links S8 booter posted earlier....

Guess this has been mentioned before - however for the MAC an MPEG2 component is available. This should make QT player to play the .VOB files as stand alone films. Do not know if they can be exported to a different [DV] format though [licensing] but should do. I am pretty sure stills can be exported though.

I ordered the MPEG2 plug [only on CD I think] some time ago but something went wrong in the process so I never got it. Anyway - reordered it but it will take some time for I get it and can make evaluations.

May be avail for PC QT too. Not sure.

Tried many freware options but none worked this far except one which made a few freames before the next went alian.

Hehe.. This actually worked - atleast playback. I'll try to dump some frames and video clips tonight.

I'm gonna go for Mattias' suggestion. The other just crashes my computer. I'm fed up with mpeg2 vob files.. arg! :x

I'll try to have something up tonight, but my DV camera is located in my studio and I don't have an internet connection or a DVD player there. Hang in there :D

Finally downloaded the 3 additional components required and it seem like the convertion now now works OK (Watining).

What s the best final format/encoding?
