Which Microphone for Live Sound?? (with MD)

Well, I got a Sharp MD recorder. Now I need a decent mic for live sound.

I'm not looking to spend a lot, as I've managed to get a simple S8 setup for pretty cheap so far. Is there a "standard" for independent film making, such as the SM57 for music? By the way, I do have a few SM57's and condenser mics (which require phantom power).

So I need a mic that I can use with my MD that won't require power (battery is okay of course). I imagine I will get one of the Shure XLR to minijack adapters for compatability.

Any suggestions?
