Please Help me figure out my Bauer C Royal (Macro Question)

Post by undermind »

I'm looking for a manual for this camera right now. I don't expect for you guys to tell me how to control every function of this camera, but most of it is rather foreign to me. I'm new to Super8 and just got a hold of this Bauer C Royal 8 E Makro. It's in good functioning order, and I'm happy to get a hold of a Bauer for my first S8 because I've liked what I've seen from them.

The main thing I'm trying to figure out right now is the lens. When I pulled it out of the box, I had the macro feature going and I could focus all the way back to the lens itself (and beyond). Then I powered it up and played a bit with a few features and must have somehow disabled the macro because it would no longer go macro. I could zoom out to a standard wide angle shot similar to a 35 mm camera. But could not focus on anything near the lens.

I'm posting a few pictures I snapped of the camera in hopes that someone may be able to point out which one of these controls would activate/deactivate the macro. Please mention which picture you're referring to. Sorry they're blurry.

Thanks so much! If anyone would like to tell me what any of the other controls are, that would be great. I will be getting a hold of a manual as soon as I can, but would like to expirement until then...

Well, the L in front stands for Long time exposure (Langzeit belichting in german; this is a german camera and the letters on it are short for german words). You can use this feature in very low light situations when you've flipped out the exposure meter for that particular function out, from the side, and put the switch on the side to L too. The figures near the L button on front are there for to adjust how long you want the exposure to be in seconds.

I can't tell you about the macro setting, just experiment while moving the focus.

There is a switch on the zoom ring with a red tri-directional arrow printed on it. With the cameras zoom at 7.5mm, turn it past 15mm, push and hold this switch forward(facing the subject), and turn the zoom ring back to 7.5mm. You can now release this switch and you should notice that the zoom ring is now easier to turn. You should now be in marco mode. But once you turn pass 15mm(somewhere between 15mm and 25mm), you will here the zoom ring click and you will be out of macro mode. By setting your focus ring to the 5 ft or closest setting you use the zoom ring to carefully focus in macro mode.
Hope I could help.
Cheers, Simon.

Hi there,
I have a manual somewhere which includes this one. I don't have the macro version myself, but it's a well featured camera, so it should cover just about anything you will ever need. If I had got the same one I probably wouldn't have got started collecting cameras! The automatic scene length timer on the L setting is just the best thing ever!
Let us know if you still need a copy and I can probably turn it into a pdf for you.
Cheers,
Ben
Go on, shoot the "reel" stuff!

The manual for the cam, can be found from this site's manuals ;-)

ftp://ftp.filmshooting.com/pub/scans/ba ... 6e-10e.zip

It's manual for 6E & 10E, but 8E is actually same camera with same functions and buttons etc....

If you could turn that into a PDF file that would be fantastic! I could get filming sooner.

By the way, what is the automatic scene length timer?

You slipped that in just before I posted.

Thank you so much. That's perfect!
