Anyone using Black 2.0 or Vantablack yet?

Post by slashmaster »

I've been a little annoyed by the windowsill effect for a long time. The super 8 Sankyo projectors have it above and below the picture. My Elmo 16-cl had it to the left of the picture but on the Bell and Howells you have to look a little harder to find it. Anyway I'm very happy to say I got rid of almost every trace of it on my Elmo 16-cl! Got a bottle of Black 2.0 and painted only about half the gate so you could see the difference. It worked great! Also painted other parts to help keep unwanted light from going where it shouldn't. Seems to have helped! It's much flatter and blacker than what Bolex used on the H-8 and H-16 too so I'm hoping this paint will tweak a little more performance out of them! Have a look! https://www.facebook.com/pg/ShildFilm/p ... 0493267980

Label on the bottle says: "Do not use on hot surfaces".
What has been your experience with painting projector gates?

I've only done the Elmo with 250 watt bulb so far and have run several films. So far it hasn't come off, doesn't seem to have burned. If I touch it, it will reduce the dullness so I try not to do that. I get the feeling it might wear away faster than regular paint when I clean the gate with a q-tip or brush but I'll still have the original paint underneath. It's certainly worth doing in the windowsill edge area of the gate. Did you see the latest pic I added with the green arrows? Might not have been up yet when you first saw it. I've got a bell and Howell with a 500 watt bulb I might try next!
