16mm Workshops

This March we are planing a one day course in Birmingham city centre [UK], introducing 16mm and Super 16 filmmaking practices. All participants will gain an elementary knowledge of using 16/S16 and visual storytelling. We will look at amateur and professional cameras, the current film stock, processing & scanning options, as well as exposure, lenses, loading cameras. We will learn about scripting and planning for a film shoot and best of all everyone gets to do some filming.

Thank you, I am hoping they are a success too. I am very happy that Kodak are supporting the whole programme. Although they are slow to respond to emails, they do recognise that there is a whole generation that have little or no understanding of celluloid, who [mostly] can only associate Kodak as the brand that makes/made printers, they want to reach out to them and see the importance of such workshops, education and training.

The younger generations are also working at Kodak. They are the ones responsible for changing the numbering and ink on roll film. I cannot use Kodak film in my folder anymore because the numbers were eliminated! Other people reported bleed through onto negatives.

I did a workshop in Little Rock, Arkansas with Kodak on 16mm (and Super 8) for the film society there. You really have to start from ground zero to explain the whole process and what's involved. We had some blank stares at certain points and had to get really basic.

I found this print many years ago and it does a decent job of explaining really basic film ideas...Feel free to borrow it or portions there of if it helps.
