No news from Ferrania is not good.

The sad fact is that Kodachrome was the most archivable acetate film stock. Kodak was very short sighted on doing away with Kodachrome. Kodachrome was not perfect by any means. Any other acetate film stock will be high maintenance. You will have to use caustic chemicals ( plug your nose) to prevent vinegar syndrome on any future reversal emulsions put out otherwise your valuable dollars will be thrown out the window in shooting super 8.

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.
While it is true Kodachrome was the best archival color reversal film, Kodak kept it alive way longer than I expected due to its environmental issues and serious costs for a lab to set up and run. The death of Kodachrome took almost 20 years. The issue of archival properties of other film stocks is no way near as dire as all that Marc. Proper storage is key, just as important for Kodachrome films. I have lots of footage shot on Ektachrome film that is 35 to 40 years old and it remains in beautiful condition. All B+W film stocks that I have shot (Tri-X for instance) are just as archival as Kodachrome so that is also an alternate. A good film cleaner/preservative such as FilmRenew is great for keeping films pliable and pristine and a gallon goes a very long way so it is very reasonable in cost I think. Yeah, we all mourn the loss of Kodachrome including many of the good film loving people at Kodak, but all is not lost. Film is still the great archival image storage medium.

My concern is not the cost of film renew, it is the offensive ( and harmful) fumes that I don't want to deal with. Black and White is great but it will never replace color film. I realize that Polyester film stocks have issues, But this would be a great alternative to Kodachrome's archival qualities.

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.
Was expecting some movement by this time last year. Just went onto the Ferrania page, the last update was February, we are now in May
. Now I know what a mountain these good people are scaling, but can't they drop us a few hints or just snaps - even digital ones - once a month? I've been ready to order colour film for over a year now, I have shoots lined up for this summer ... I have no colour film :-|

I believe both Kahl and Wittner have color film available. Also there is Kodak Vision 3 for transfer which more and more filmers seem to be using.

Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.
In the USA color reversal is available from Spectra Film and Video, Pro 8mm and Dwayne's Photo. No need to wait for Ferrania.
Re: No news from Ferrania is not good.
Ferrania do give an update about every month.
Chill.
Chill.

Thanks, guess I'll bite the bullet here - need 16mmEric Milborn wrote:......

ASA 200 that's a stop over what I'm getting used to with Fomapan asa 100 (sigh) but I think the Ferrania emulsion was going to be the same speed. Trouble with Wittner is in the UK I pay double for everything, once for the product, twice for the postage and 'tax', it kills me every time.
But I'm desperate

For the UK the best source for Wittner film stock is
http://www.gaugefilm.co.uk
They will get you 16mm as well if you inquire for it.
They receive shipments from Wittners on a regular basis and easily can include some 16mm rolls for you (or other products).

While some have had rather bad experiences with Pro8mm, I got to say this (reversal) development looks sweet: https://vimeo.com/164822714
