Trailer for my new film

This is a trailer I made for a short film of mine called Island Odyssey. I'll be submitting the film to various film festivals and see how it goes. Hate to say this but it did not originate on film. However, a number of years ago, I had started a similar project shot on 16mm with a Krasnogorsk 3 and some Fuji 250 film (can't even remember if it was daylight or tungsten balanced.) Anyhow that was shelved for various reasons and I began anew with HD digital. Well at least it's finished....it took a long time but finally I got there.

It's amazing how many stars you can see out here on a clear, moonless night. And the camera picked up even more stars than I could see with my own eyes - billions of them. Even a few shooting stars too.

Yea it's funny how they walk. I once saw a baby echidna and as it was wobbling from side to side during it's walk, it nearly tipped over.

Thanks for the good words! This will be the first time that the film will be screened in public.

I'm designing the DVD and Bluray covers for the film at the moment. And I'm pleased to say that although the film was a digital production, the main image on the front cover is a scan from 35mm slide film. Fujichrome Sensia if I recall correctly (probably 100asa.) Actually, there are quite a number of sequences in the film that were shot with old manual film lenses (1970s and 1980s vintage) mounted to my digi cameras. These were primarily Canon FD lenses that Ive also used with my 35mm SLRs in the past.

With regards to the DVDs and Blurays, they won't be mass produced and there won't be any official distributor or anything like that. At this stage, I only plan to make a small number of copies. Since the film focuses on the natural attractions of Kangaroo Island (namely the landscapes and wildlife) it might have some potential in the tourism market. On Kangaroo Island, there are a series of markets that are visited by cruise ships stopping over with interstate (and sometimes overseas) tourists. Ive had some good success with my own stall at these markets, selling prints and cards made from my photographs that were captured with a variety of different mediums / formats - digital, 35mm and medium format film. Actually, there's one particular landscape image (shot on 6 x 7 cm medium format film) that's been one of my best sellers at these markets. I'll also be selling DVD and Bluray copies of Island Odyssey at the markets and see how they go. What I plan to do is have a laptop at my stall (running on battery power) playing Island Odyssey on constant repeat so that people can see the film for themselves as they browse the merchandise.

Actually another possible selling point about this film is some rather rare footage that is contained within. There's some underwater footage of Oceanic Common dolphins (you can see a brief glimpse of this in the trailer above.) Apparently, there is very little underwater footage that exists of this species of dolphin in South Australian waters. I guess I was in the right place at the right time.
