Over the next few days, some relatives will be staying and I plan to project a regular 8mm film of my parents' wedding from 1969. I don't think any of us have seen this footage before so it should be quite an occasion. I managed to find my Eumig 610D dual guage projector. It's a bit dusty and I haven't used it in years. After cleaning it up, I tried to gain access to the gate but was not successful. From memory, you push a small metal lever and that allows the lens to swing out to the side, allowing access to the gate.
When I push this lever, the lens only moves outwards by a very small amount - about 1cm. It will not move any further and I don't want to force it. So unfortunately, I can't clean the gate and I can't access the film within the gate area if something goes wrong during projection. By the way, the side cover on the projector has been removed. Does anyone who uses this same projector have some tips on how to move the lens all the way out? Right now, there's an extremely limited range of movement.

I've got one but haven't used it for years - so my memory is quite rusty - but can't you pull the lense out forward as well? - just straight out of the mounting?

Hey Scot.
I guess I could if I rotate the focusing knob far enough. Though I might get worried about getting the lens back in! I think it would make things easier (with regards to cleaning and film extraction) if I could swing the lens out to the side. I vaguely remember that I used to be able to do this but I'm not sure if there's a trick involved.Scotness wrote:can't you pull the lense out forward as well? - just straight out of the mounting?

Well that was a total non event. The film didn't end up being shown. By the way, there is a bit of mystery surrounding this film. There had been talk of some guy who had filmed my parents wedding on super 8 back in 1969. He asked for payment but my parents couldn't afford it so they didn't get their hands on the film. For a long time Ive been wondering about the status of this film - whether the guy kept it or whether he threw it out. And whether he could be tracked down and contacted. Then all of a sudden, an 8mm film of my folks wedding turns up at my uncle's place. And I assume that this is the same film shot by that guy asking for payment decades ago. If so, I don't know how it ended up in the family. But when I inspected the reel, it turned out to be regular 8mm. And nobody knows the origin of this film - who shot it etc. Regardless, there didn't seem to be enough interest amongst my relatives to watch the film last night. They preferred to watch a movie on TV instead. I guess I'll be watching the film by myself.

Well I ended up screening the wedding film in front of the family anyway. And they thoroughly enjoyed it. One very odd thing though - the projected image was extremely dim. Even though I had the projector fairly close to the screen. And of course all the house lights were off. I guess the globe may have been old but from memory, don't projector globes maintain full brightness until they blow? I don't recall them getting dimmer with age.
