I’ve run a sound-striped film through a Super 8 synchronizer + footage counter and, extrapolating for a film length of 400 feet, found such a film would occupy an indicated 480 feet on a reel.

So I wasn't far off. Thanks Sciolist!

I am a happy user of Bolex Weberling DS 240 (black model), that I use for the Super 8, and a Juwel Mini 8S8(which is just a gem!) that I use for the Regular 8, on the Bolex miss interchangeable sprocket for the Regular 8; in reality it would be dual format, also as the Juwel, of course.
I put magnetic stripe on 80% of acetate films that i shot, and the advices given in the thread on the type of magnetic stripe, the sizes and the stores that sell it are excellent. Should not take elsewhere the magnetic tap, it would be an immense work, almost impossible, and I do not know how much there would be compatibility.
For Super 8, usually, I apply the balance track, but I have not encountered large image blur when I did not apply it, perhaps because you should see only with lens VERY bright.
With Regular 8, stripe is applied to one side, that of the holes, and that's fine!
I admit that the amateru striping is a job that requires maximum attention and dexterity, but practice helps a lot, it also becomes a nice job.

Some laboratories also stripe the 16mm, thing I would do in the future.
