Identifying 4008 Battery Types

Post by Will2 »

I have three different re-celled Beaulieu 4008 batteries collected over many years, and they have been re-celled, but I can't remember if they are Ni-MH or Ni-CD. This is only important because there's a switch on my charger to select the type and I'd prefer to do it right and avoid fires/explosions. Is there any way to identify the type of battery other than trying to open it up and look at the cells? or will it really be an issue as to what I set the charger on?

Just charge them as Ni-Cd. Ni-Mh will not suffer.

The other way around is not so safe. Don't charge NI-Mh in camera as NI-MH may get hot. Also an internal resistor may get fried as these NI-Mh chargers often are adaptive and can send in far more current than allowed for the original Ni-Cd and circuitry.
Kind regards,
