How to deal with flat spots on sound tensioner tires?

Post by slashmaster »

Got myself a new set of tires for the tensioner rollers by the soundhead of my Elmo 16-cl. Problem is, there are flat spots on them and you can hear it in the audio. I was hoping after several films they would break in but I've played about 100. What do I do? Run them on a lathe? I hesitate to do this because I don't know if I can get the surface as smooth as it is right now again.

Hi slashmaster,
those "tires" are crap. I did use them once and had the same problems. Cheap solutions are in fact bad solutions very often.
Get those precisely machined new rubber rollers from Wittners - and your projector will run sound movies like a charm.
Wittner offers complete rolls - not cheaply fabricated tires only.

Thanks Eric! I thought what I had bought was my only option. Being that I already have them, I guess I've got nothing to lose trying to run them on a lathe. So you have an Elmo 16-cl too huh? If so tell me something else, is the last tire (just before the sprocket wheel) way off on it's alignment with the film? Mine is, but the tensioner doesn't look bent and doesn't look like it would have been possible to space it wrong with different washers. Looks like it came out of the factory like that!
