"In My Image" - remaster and HD transfer

Post by Scotness »

Alrighty so it's happening :-)

Miles of Wombok Forest fame is going to transfer it for me ~ and then we'll just go from there :-)

There's a lot of footage to transfer - I think it's 27 x 400 foot reels

There's also a few home movies and things mixed in - and someone's holiday movies from a road trip up the East Coast of Australia in the early 70's that I picked up at Lifeline years ago ( I'm very keen to get that up on youtube).

So we'll be transferring it on Mile's home made transfer unit which uses a Panasonic GH4 as the imaging camera - this will give us a frame size of 4608 x 3456 - which is plenty of room to move with.

It's a pretty amazing set up and even includes 3D printed parts.

And here's the genius in his office/cave/lair ;-)

So what's the point in doing this? - basically I just want to be able to give the best possible version of the film that there can be - and I think now I can take advantage of my improved experience, as well as better general equipment and software now - as well as a better transfer. I think I'll make the final thing a 16:9 framing as well.

Remastering the image will probably be the easiest part of it - I think we'll have to ADR most of it to get rid of the dreaded 4008ZMII noise - but anyway I just want a really good version of it.

I think it will end up as a movie on Amazon that you can stream - or maybe DVD's off there as well - I don't think I'll reburn all the DVD's myself like I did the first time round!

This will be a slow motion process too by the way - if the whole thing is finished by the end of next year that'll be fine with me (and perhaps a bit optimisitic too) - my main aim now is finishing my novel Zero World first - and each 400 foot roll takes a day to transfer - not to mention how long the audio will take.

So anyway it'll take a while but I'll post updates here of the whole process

Scot :-)

I've decided to put the website for the film back up online - you can see it here

Get ready for alot of Web 1.0 magic - circa 2001 =))

I've also resized the pictures above so they should display properly now
