Spool sizes

Post by walcott »

A basic question that I do not know the answer to. What is the spool diameter for a spool of 30m film (2 x 8) and one that takes only 10m (2 x 8) or is the spool size the same but just more film wound on.

Do you mean what is the spool diameter(spool size) for a normal/regular 8mm camera spool for film that is 10meters(25 ft) in length and 30(100ft) meters in length? These spools are different in diameter. Also do you want the inside diameter and/or the outside diameter? The core that film is wound on is the inside diameter and the outer rim of the spool is the outside diameter.

Spool dimensions are specified by ISO 1020.

The smallest one for 25 nominal feet of Double-Eight film has 52 mm diameter max.
The 50-ft. spool shall measure 71,5 mm max.
The 100-ft. spool (30,48 m) is of 92 mmm diameter max.

I am a bit late in thanking both for replies. I am more used to 16mm but was delving deeper into other formats hence the question. Thanks for both replies.
