Just starting out
I've been lurking the forum for a bit and decided to go ahead and get an account. A friend and I just bought a K-3 off of ebay and we're really interested in learning how to process our own film. We're thinking about making a lomo-style developing tank similar Chris Gavin's (http://www.chrisgavin.com/2013/07/diy-s ... -cine.html). We're pretty confident that we can make the tank and I've already found a lot of information online about diy developing. Our main problem is that we're having trouble finding film. Right now I'm considering just buying a roll from b&h. Are there better places to buy from in the U.S.? Also, what film stock would be best for diy developing? Thanks

Re: Just starting out
Where are our home processing guys?
I applaud your for trying to do this. If you are asking what would be easiest to process I'm thinking black and white reversal but someone else may have another opinion. Modern color negative film has several steps that aren't all that easy to do at home.
You might try emailing or calling Tommy Aschenbach at videofilmsolutions.com. He runs a lab in Maryland and grew up around film and processing. He'd probably have some insight for you.
I have a feeling once you've done it a couple times you'll realize that labs price processing pretty fairly for all the effort and toxic chemicals involved.

I don't know if you have to go in there in-person to do it, but the NW Film Center in Portland sure has something interesting going on with film, processing and tele prices... It'd be worth talking to them either way.

Good luck with the K3! I got one eons ago, shot one very nice roll with it and then it seemed to have trouble with the loop former so rather than troubleshoot, I let it sit in favor of my bolex. Lame, but I didn't have the cash for experimenting.

Thanks for all the info everybody! Sorry, I would have replied sooner but school ruled my life for the last couple of weeks.
