16mm processing prices

Post by gaugefilm »

Hi all,

As previously mentioned we'll be moving into 16mm processing soon. It's a little ways off yet as we're still building the 8mm negative side of things but I'm hoping 16mm processing will be underway by March. I'll be hand processing 100ft rolls and I'm wondering if you kind folks could recommend some 16mm labs I can look at online. I need to get a feel for pricing 16mm reversal and neg. We trade within the EU so any labs on this side of the pond would be great.

What are your thoughts on pricing 100ft rolls of 16mm reversal and neg?

As always thanks in advance for any advice and help.

Best
Kevin

As far as I know there are two major labs in England that that process 16mm colour negative very cheaply Cinelab London and idailies, another lab - Film and Photo [not sure if they are still around] processes colour reversal, processing is colour reversal is expensive. About two years ago when Cinelabs London were Bucks lab I am sure they were able to process black and white 16mm and 35mm, but I never asked about costs and I am not sure if they can still do it. A specialist lab in London - Prestech may be able to process 16mm black and white, but again I don’t know at what price, then there's Nowhere lab in London I don't know much about their costs.

Filmkunst of Basel, Switzerland, closed in 2008, did black and white exclusively and by hand. Processing to negative was 48 Rp./ft., reversal processing 54 Rp./ft. then.

100 Rappen are 1 Swiss Franc. The Swiss Franc has a legal minimal conversion factor of 1.2 to the Euro. The 48 and 54 Rp. would be € —,40 and —,45, respectively. In other words, developing a 100-foot negative roll cost 40 Euro, processing a 100-foot roll of Fomapan R 45 Euro, net. Gigabitfilm same prices

The 25-ft. Double-8 or DS-8 rolls are actually 33 feet long. Processing was basically a third of the 100-foot pricing, splitting included: 13,35 Euro for negatives and 15 Euro for reversal treatment. Also manual processing in spiral reels
