My experience so far is:
- Projector Bell&Howell 3 blade shutter, no speed adjustment (~18fps, not accurate at all)
- Camcorder: Sony Digital8
- Manual exposure and focus
- Steadshot off
- Wall projection into A4 paper (~20x25cm screen)
- Video processing with VirtualDub antiflicker, hotspot, sharpness and sometimes whitebalance and deshaker filter
- Color, contrast and gamma correction using video editor features (Ulead)

I think I'm getting very satisfactory (amateur) results. No flicker, image as good as I can project.
I clean movies before projecting using a soft tissue soaked with isopropil alcohol.

What is this VirtualDub software? Sounds like something I can really
use! Price?

Look at http://www.virtualdub.org
It's a free software that let you correct flickering, hotspot, etc. Those are additional filters that you must install apart. It's a must to have software for video editing.
