new super 8 documentary film posted

Post by STREDGE »

im working on a european tour documentary of my band. I shot 30 rolls of k40 over 7 weeks and 50 gigs all throughout europe. This is only the first 10 minutes of the documentary and it is a very rough cut but i figured people would be interested in seeing progress. i havent done any compression before so this is definitely not the best. All comments appreciated. Only people I know have seen this and they know everybody in the film so it isnt the best audience for any constructive critique
thanks
andy

Just looked at it and Im amazed. I really liked it. SOme of that stuff looked like 16mm. What camera did you use?
I thought it was well put together, but maybe u should try to present each guy in the band a bit more from the start so we can understand who they are talking about at different times. I really liked everything else, maybe fine tune the audio at some places later to.

How did u transfer it over to dv?
Great job!

thanks for the comments Marius. I used a canon 814 and transferred the film on my workprinter. I was originally only making the film for us sort of as a "film diary" so, everyone already knew who everyone else was. But Im happy with how it is turning out so far (thinking of entering some small festivals) in which case presenting and fleshing out the band members is a great idea and makes alot of sense.

thanks

i personally love that first concert (stage) sequence (early in the project..) fast, nervous, sort of crazy, exactly what turns me on with these types of bands.

do you mind sharing the techniques of filming/editing this? stock? camera speed? etc... i would really appreciate it.

Somehow, I knew this might happen.

The very minute you ask someone a straight question, all correspondence from the "asked side" stops.

I guess, it's too much to expect some technical or "how-to" info. sharing, yet, every other non-important nonsense is widely and freely available in the topic.

Why so impatient? Perhaps he's busy working on the very project you have questions about. It wouldn't surprise me, considering how complicated and large even a small documentary can be. I'm sure he'll return and offer up some more information later, when he has the time.
