This device appears in the 1973 Bolex factory catalog. The Variotimer system is designed to assure absolutely even exposures in animation, single-frame, and time-lapse filming. It's comprised of four separate units: the Camera Single-Frame Motor that attaches to spring-wound H-16 cameras, a Control Unit with adjustable exposure times from 1/10 of a second to ten seconds per frame, a Timing Unit that permits automatic single-frame filming at intervals from 0.3 seconds to 6 hours, and a Converter for single-frame filming in locations where 110VAC isn't available. The motor alone doesn't appear to be of any use without the accessory units.
