Re: My All Time Best Film
thought id add some explanation. this film is post war germany in a small corrupted town. they get a new nazi (but no nazi) like straight "burgermeister".
the guy it completely straight - no bribes there and that is a problem to the "community".
now, in the bar/beer hall there is this lovely whore and entertainment, he finally falls in love with the whore which in the end turns him a little "sooted" on his wings, a little corrupted which instantly makes him vunerable.
THE MOMENT HE IS TAKEN WITH THE TROUSERS DOWN is a filmatic genious like i have never ever seen anything like....
the film ends with the marriage ceremony between the burgermeister and the whore, he has now become a part of the establisement but kind of still straight on the surface, right after the wedding ceremony in their wedding costumes he leaves briefly for a short business meeting while his wife whore takes his Mercedes for a stroll - to meet one of the her former "customers" - an important businessman in the town and well known aquaintee of the burgermeister at this time to have sex with the businessman - she is in a good mood etertaining - business as usual....see you later
i am still uncertain if the burgermeister and the whore wife made an agreement so she was free to continue her business while married "just to get her".
sort of surrealistic but made so well in a way just Fassbinder could do it.
an easier and quick passage into Fassbinders work is the opening squence of The Marriage of Maria Braun )1975): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yco4Ud_5lN8
