Also, the program doesn't even show up in my registry to uninstall and reinsatll.

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
I tried reinstalling it. I just hit cancel on the "buy online" popup and it still worked. But I still can't get avi or wmv files to work with the software. I just get a "avisynth can't open" error message. I let the installer install avisynth, and some other file types open fine, like mp4 and SD avi.

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
That's because you don't need to install "Film 9". You'll simply extract the complete ZIP- or RAR-file and then start the EXE. (Like in ye olde DOS-days ;-) )Tscan wrote:Also, the program doesn't even show up in my registry to uninstall and reinsatll.
This space was left intenionally blank.
Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
I figured that out today. Still trying to figure the rest out. It does a really nice job with color correcting and noise reduction, better than I can get fiddling around for hours. I just want to take a video file of my choice, run it through film9 and let it do it's thing, then end up with a video file of my choice. The only way i can get somewhere with it now is to render my video to an mp4 in Vegas first. Then it will open in virtual dub and work it's magic. Except the best finished file i end up with at this point is an avi that runs at the wrong frame rate. It wants to stay on 16fps.jpolzfuss wrote:That's because you don't need to install "Film 9". Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
I didn't notice such a popup when using "Film9"!?Tscan wrote:I just hit cancel on the "buy online" popup
Maybe that's because of the used codec/file-format? E.g. support for ASF has been dropped in an earlier version of VirtualDub and some codecs never worked correctly with VirtualDub... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirtualDub and http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_codecs.htmlTscan wrote:some other file types open fine, like mp4 and SD avi.

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
Hello,
Thank you for the interest you have shown in Film9 ... and thank you for the help forum members provide to other users.
Here are some details that I hope will answer your questions:
- Film9 is completely free and does not need any registration.
Our pleasure is to share our passion with other user.
The popup "buy online" does not belong to this software.
Is it related to the use of paid codecs :?: :?:
- Before the first opening of Film9:
1) it is recommended to completely uninstall Avisynth. Film9 contains all the files needed for the proper functioning of Avisynth.
2) Install the codecs pack K-Lite Codec Pack
- Film9 does not file any information in the registry, you can copy it to any directory without any problem, but it does not work with temporary directories.
- For compatibility with Avisynth, Film9 does not accept the use of directories containing accents or special characters.
- WMV files are not supported by Film9. We assume that the files from the cameras are uncommon format ".WMV"
But if you wish, we can integrate this format in a future version of Film9
- Film9 creates a first intermediate file in "Compliance" to
standardize the appearance of the video, this for the filters contained in "Final processing" have the maximum effect.
Do not forget to click "Launch Pre-selected clip" in "Final processing" to create the final clip.
- If you want to file a final 25 or 50 fs (29.97 or 59.94 for NTSC), you must enable “interpolation†in "Final processing"
I hope these explanations in broken English you have been useful.
Very friendly !!
Roland and Gilles

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
I have it able to run with mp4 imports for now. The finished file ends up as an avi. The program does a really nice job with the color and image quality, except I can't get the finished files to run at normal speed! no matter what I select, the finished video runs twice as fast as it should. What are you guys doing differently? What frame rates are you choosing for a 24fps video? 25 isn't working for me.

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
I had a problems with incorrect speeds as well until I changed the Camera / Projector option on the first page to Capture "Frame by frame" instead of the default "on the fly".

Yes that worked for me too.memoriesrenewed wrote:I had a problems with incorrect speeds as well until I changed the Camera / Projector option on the first page to Capture "Frame by frame" instead of the default "on the fly".

Re: Film 9: Film restoration software.
A new DLL used in the latest fashion Film9 uses multithreading recent.
We now know that a compatibility problem can cause the application to crash
Only Windows 7 seems to have not installed "tool" essential to the use of this dll. We also know that a complete reinstallation of Windows 7 eliminates this problem.
We hope to be able to give you a Windows update procedure that may solve the problem without having to go through a tedious resettlement.
Moreover, users who have this problem may have other problems with other programs seeking such multithreading instructions.
Here's what we offer:
A version 1.41 - This is a version of "top performance" for those who have not encountered compatibility issues.
In this version, a bug on automatic cropping has been fixed at the same time (hence the version 1.41)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/uxttj35godtw8 ... 1.zip?dl=0
A draft version 1.40 - This version contains troubleshooting the "standard" version for those who experience a compatibility problem.
In this version, the bug on the auto trim has also been fixed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jdyr38ygj13iy ... 0.zip?dl=0
Like what, you can do a lot of tests but nothing can replace your user experience
