New Film Scanner with "Universal Optics"?

I like paying attention to new technology for scanning small gauge film, like other people on this forum.

Digital Vision's Patrick Morgan says the new Golden Eye 4 film scanner consists of "universal optics" that will allow scanning of any format, including 8mm, at around 4:50 minutes into this video.

Yes, I know about it. It's pretty good. They use industrial machine vision cameras inside and have redone the whole optics system. It's a quite expensive machine. About $200K I think.

I looked into it last year and couldn't believe the price point. I guess they figure if they just sell a few they'll make enough money. Wish they could bring it in at $20,000.

I've always been curious as to why they have two separate cameras (at least in the Golden Eye III.) It seems unlikely that you'd be able to oversample with two different cameras capturing from different angles without causing a loss of sharpness.

Thanks, Andreas. Both products (the Golden Eye 4 film scanner and the Xena Film Scanner & Datacine) look exciting.

I hope there will be services offering scanning of regular 8mm film, with one or both of these film scanners.
