Fuji 250D underwater
Hi all
this film stock is a real surprise, incredible fine grain and excellent color reproduction. Unfortunately Vimeo compression destroys fine details. It reminds me earlier youtube compression.

Re: Fuji 250D underwater
here you are, it is a simple plexiglass cylinder. The lens side is a dome glass that correct the water distortion

Re: Fuji 250D underwater
Hey Rob, I was just going through your whole vimeo channel. Nice job you did making that normal super 8 cam into a c-mount! What did that camera originally use to be? I've got myself one of these I want to do the same thing to. If I can get it to run at all.. http://www.super8data.com/database/came ... s_802b.htm Did you ever figure out why you had that strange magenta shift on the right side?

That was a "Laser Super Eight" , a very simple camera. For the magenta shift, i wrote to wittner (the seller of film stock K40) and they answered that magenta shift may be related to an overheat of film ( on one side only !!!). I can't understand how it could be happened. For sure not when this film was in my hands. I think that it could had been something wrong in the processing labslashmaster wrote:Hey Rob, I was just going through your whole vimeo channel. I just tried looking up "Laser" in super8data. It wasn't on the list. You should tell those guys about it and scan a pic of the manual or box if you still have it. Have you tried another roll in that camera without the magenta shift?...PyrodsTechnology wrote:That was a "Laser Super Eight" , a very simple camera. Re: Fuji 250D underwater
well, it was a very economic camera, ideal to experiment with. It was a second hand camera, so i have not box or instructions book. Yes, i shoot other things with it, but only that stock came with that magenta shift. it was not related to camera, because i shot that filmstock with others cameras and all were the same magenta shift

I see. Now where did you get that C mount socket? Did you glue it onto that plate?PyrodsTechnology wrote:well, it was a very economic camera, ideal to experiment with. Re: Fuji 250D underwater
Hmm,
I've got a Sankyo ES-44XL camera which seems to have some 'haze' in the lens. It's a nice small, but relatively late-S8 era camera. I had written-off the camera, but would it really be possible to remove the lens and have a c-mount there instead? I've got a few c-mount lenses. This would be fantastic if it were do-able. So yes, I too would like to know more about the possibility of doing this...

Re: Fuji 250D underwater
it is a C to D mount adapter screwed on the front plate. @ chrisgavin, almost every that kind of S8 camera are C mount convertibles. If you have a camera to "sacrifice"then why not. You will lost every automatic function, in short will get body only .

Oh, so when you drilled the holes for the plate you didn't have to tap any threads? I've been planning to make a plate but am trying to figure out how to tap the c-mount threads.PyrodsTechnology wrote:it is a C to D mount adapter screwed on the front plate. @ chrisgavin, almost every that kind of S8 camera are C mount convertibles. Re: Fuji 250D underwater
Pyrods,
Many thanks for this info. Great idea! Of course there are many other X lensemount to c-mount adaptors available cheaply on ebay too, so it's possibly just a case of looking there and seeing which sort might best 'fill the big hole' in the front of the camera! But I'd imagined that the distance from lens rear to film plane was critical. There must be a standard distance for c-mount to super 8 film plane. Or maybe the distance isn't so critical as long as the image just looks in focus in the reflex viewfinder?
Anyway, like you say, my old Sankyo (it's a ES-66XL) is a camera that I was otherwise expecting to throw away (due to the lens fogging) so like you say, there's nothing much to lose.
By the way, (Back on topic) I think the underwater footage looks great : )
Chris

Re: Fuji 250D underwater
The camera looks like the Nalcolm FTL 1000:PyrodsTechnology wrote:That was a "Laser Super Eight"
http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Nalcom_ ... nchro_Zoom
(Nalcolm-cameras have also been sold under other names. E.g. the German mail order company "Neckermann" sold the "Nalcolm FTL 800" as "Neckermann FTL",...)
This space was left intenionally blank.

Re: Fuji 250D underwater
my mistake , the camera is this http://www.super8data.com/database/came ... mirage.htm
@ jpolzfuss : you are right, the camera inside the underwater housing pictured is a Nalcom FTL 1000, but this camera is not C mount convertible due to shutter design and start-stop mechanism that shift too far the focal flange
@ slashmaster: the front plate is unmodified, it was already drilled for its original lens, i made the thread D mount only and then put C to D mount adapter
@ chrisgavin(By the way, (Back on topic) I think the underwater footage looks great : ) thankyou, have you noticed the crystal clear water ? ;-)

wait , with this customization, i left every original optics, reflex viewfinder system included. The purpose of this camera was to achieve the most quality possible in the most little size possible, with wideangle lens only. In fact a Point Of View camera
