Hi, hope everyone is doing well! I haven't checked in on here for a while.
I'm running low on my Solvon film cleaner which I use with a cotton cloth between re-winds. I'm looking into getting some more or something similar. I've been sourcing the Solvon from the US up until now which is cool but the postage prices are pretty crazy these days (and then there is the import duty to consider).
Does anyone know where I can get a quick drying film cleaning solution like Solvon that I can pick up in Europe.
Thanks
Kevin

How about talking to Chris at RTI in London and get a proper filmcleaner? I use the Excel 1000 and it is awesome.

I believe Film-Tech is located in Europe, they sell FilmGuard. I'm not sure if it's considered a fast drying cleaner.

I use FilmRenew but I get it from Urbanski film in the US and it's a slow drying cleaner. I like it because it can rejuvenate old dried out film plus it provides lubrication. They also cary Solvon which is a fast drying cleaner.

Re: Film Cleaner in the UK or Europe
Hi Guys, thanks for the replies.
How much are we talking generally for the XL1000?
I'm pretty sure Film Guard and Film Renew are to make film more supple. I don't think they are cleaners and can be damaging to film if left on the emulsion for long periods of time. I've been getting the Solvon from Urbanski myself. Great chap, excellent service and if push comes to shove I'll definitely be getting some more from him. It's just a shame postage is so high and I want to avoid extra cost if possible. Ideally I want to get something similar to Solvon (or Solvon) within Europe. That would be perfect!
Best

Re: Film Cleaner in the UK or Europe
Hi Guys
Is it possible to just use isopropyl alcohol? Thats what kodak recommend for negs I think….I been using a huge bottle of film/slide cleaner for years that i got here in oz….it smells like isopropyl …so i figured once its out i would just use regular 90% isopropyl .

FilmRenew won't damage film. I've soaked old brittle reels submerged in it for a few days with great results. Both FilmRenew and Filmguard lubricate the film which is great if you're projecting it. There has been a lot of debate and testimonials on film cleaners on the 8mm Forum.
